Kusa Connect is now the UK trade representative for The Social House in Nairobi. It is the first city hotel in the portfolio, and it fills a gap that shows up on almost every Kenya itinerary: the night before the safari, and the night after it.
The house is on James Gichuru Road in Lavington, west of the centre. Eighty-three bedrooms in six categories, four restaurants, seven meeting and event spaces, a heated outdoor lap pool, a gym and a garden. It opened in 2020, belongs to Preferred Hotels & Resorts' Lifestyle Collection, and has taken Kenya's Leading Boutique Hotel at the World Travel Awards in each year from 2021 to 2025.
What makes it worth programming rather than defaulting to is the ground floor. Copper is an open-fire urban grill; Inca is a rooftop Peruvian dining room with sharing plates, live music and DJs; The Other Room is an indoor-outdoor farm-to-table restaurant open around the clock; The Living Room is a cafe-bar and coffee roastery, roasting Kenyan Arabica on site and open at any hour a delayed flight lands. All four serve Nairobi as well as residents, which is the difference between an arrival night a client sleeps through and one they remember.
The practical numbers work too. Wilson Airport, where the light aircraft leave for the Mara and the northern conservancies, is about 20 minutes away in reasonable traffic; Jomo Kenyatta International is about 30. Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Centre and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust are all short drives for a spare day at either end. Biggest Bedrooms interconnect with twins and the accessible rooms interconnect with a king-bedded room, so families and groups travelling together can be placed side by side.
For operators programming meetings and incentives, the seven event spaces run from a four-seat snug to an 84 square metre room divisible in two, holding 70 for a cocktail reception — in the same building as the bedrooms and the restaurants.
